Advice
Choosing the right frame for you:
Before you start you need to consider 3 points:

1.FACE SHAPE
Every face shape is very unique but they all fall into four main categories:

OVAL FACE:

People with an oval faces can choose almost any shape frame, as the forehead is in proportion to the jaw.  Try to avoid round frames as this has the tendency to make the face look more oval, select a frame which is in proportion to the face.

ROUND FACE:

Round faces have little or no cheek bones so it may seem like they are shorter and may lack definition.  When choosing frames the aim is to lengthen the face, increase the definition of the cheek bone and move people’s attention higher up on the face.
Choose the following shapes:

  • Oval
  • Soft rectangular
  • Up swept

SQUARE FACE:

A square face is well proportioned, with well defined features.  When choosing frames you need to soften the definition by drawing attention away from the jaw area and to lengthen the face.
Choose the following shapes:

  • Oval
  • Soft rectangle

RECTANGULAR FACE:

A rectangular face is often quite long, with straight and prominent jaw lines.  When choosing frames the idea is to shorten appearance of the face.
Choose the following shapes:

  • Square (with soft angles)
  • Round
  • Aviator

2.FACE COLOUR

Frame colours are very unique and individual choosing a frame colour can depend on your hair, skin, eye colour or even your mood.  The main aim is to enhance and compliment your features.  Generally speaking colours choices fall into two facial categories, you either have WARM colour features or COOL colour features.

Facial characteristics of WARM Colouring:

Hair: Will be more red in colour e.g. Chestnut or strawberry blond
Eyes: Dark eyes e.g. Brown or Dark blue
Skin: Caucasians: Ivory complexion
  African/Caribbean: Bronze/mahogany
  Asian: Beige/bronze

Best frames colours for warm characteristics are:

  • Brown
Facial characteristics of COOL Colouring:
Hair: Black or Ash brown/blonde e.g. Chestnut or strawberry blond
Eyes: Light colours e.g. light blue, grey or light brown
Skin: Caucasians: Pastel pink
  African/Caribbean: Grey brown, or Cocoa
  Asian: Grey/beige

Best frames colours for Cool characteristics are:

  • Silver
  • Gun metal
  • Pink
  • Lilac
  • Grey
  • Pewter
  • Aqua
  • Blue
3.PRESCRIPTION

If you have a Large Myopic (short sighted) Prescription then you will need to choose a small eye size as this will minimise the edge thickness of the lens.  You will also benefit from choosing a plastic frame as this will hide more of the edge.  You will also benefit from a High index lens to make the lens thinner.

If you have a Large Hypermetropic (long sighted) prescription then you should stay away from rimless glasses as the lenses will be too thin at the edges and may break.  You may prefer to go for plastic frames as this will hide more of the edge.  You will also benefit from using high index lenses as this will make them thinner.

If you require your glasses for bifocals or varifocals you will need to choose a frame that has enough depth to fit the lenses.  All the suitable frames will be indicated on the site.

Please remember these are only guide line and you may choose a colour or shape to suit your mood, your image, and your characteristics.
